Anybody want to use Portlets with ICEfaces?

Hello Everyone,

We've had a few inquiries into supporting Portlets and are wondering if Portlets are on anybody else's radar. Is anyone else out there using Portlets, and if so, what implementations have you evaluated or have decided on? Tell us your thoughts.

Thanks,
Philip

I see that Preliminary Portal support has been achieved in version 1.5.

Can someone make available a Hello World JSR 168 ice face ?

Re:Anybody want to use Portlets with ICEfaces?

Hi Satya,

There's preliminary support for portals in ICEfaces 1.5. I'm not sure about how well it will work with Liferay as I don't think that's been tested yet. But a few configuration details that might help you:

1) for tomcat set emptySessionPath="true" so that the portlet can share the session with its BlockingServlet http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-5.5-doc/config/http.html

2) configure WEB-INF/portlet.xml so that PersitentFacesPortlet is used

Some things that I believe are still to be resolved:

- navigation is not working within portlets
- "connection lost" cannot put a modal barrier over the whole page as there are multiple portlets on that page

Thanks,
Philip

Icefaces 1.5.3 (from Seam Icefaces example), works quite nice! Just one thing I still needed to do is to combine the two icefaces javascript files (cat ice-extras.js >> icefaces-d2d.js) to get drag-n-drop to work. Icefaces wasn't able to find Draggable (and the other relevant js objects) due to some weird thing when running inside portlet. Maybe the automatic inclusion of icefaces-extra.js just doesn't work when running in portlet mode (Liferay 4.2.0).

Hi Greg,

Our first 2 targets are Liferay and JBoss Portal. After that we have no set priority. It will most likely depend on client demand which we'll review after we've completed Liferay and JBoss support, at which time we'll be better able to judge the extent of work required for supporting WebLogic.

Hi... Any update on this thread?
1.Is Liferay still the first priority on integration with icefaces, does navigation work now?
2. Or is the integration with JBOSS portal as quoted above better than Liferay?
3. Is there any documentation on how to get to the logged in user principal, in either Liferay or Jboss from within the icefaces webapp.

I am in the midst of deciding between JBOSS and Liferay. I've decided on icefaces; would be very helpful if anyone has any pointers on the portal solution. I am inclined to go with JBoss as it has a comparatively larger services company backing it.. while Liferay seems to enjoy a much wider adoption.
