1,000,000 downloads

Just received an email from Icesoft mentioning that Icefaces reaches 1,000,000 downloads.

I am curious how the number comes out.

Since every download required register, that means the number of registered members is related to the number of downloads. Currently, total members is 55,000. To reach 1,000,000 downloads, every members need to download Icefaces 20 times!

Icefaces releases a new version about 2-4 months. And, Icefaces went first released in late 2006. Is it possible for every members to download 20 times for the past 2 years (about 10 versions)? Hmm... It's interesting.

Any comments?

Close but sorry no cigar!

It would be quite natural to assume that all downloads only stem from registered users. Your observation is correct as it applies to ICEfaces.org as it stands today. You do have to be a registered user to download ICEfaces from ICEfaces.org.

The reality however is that more than 50% of our downloads also come from numerous channel partners and portals. Genuitec / myEclipse is a great example of this one.

In the early days of our release, the product was also available through a number of portals etc. around the globe. Our 1M count is based in part on the confirmed data we received from those sites. Not included in the count are the untold downloads from the global portals and distribution sites we were not able to get "reputable" data from.

As a result, the 1,000,000 downloads is a conservative count if anything!
