Yesteray, BEA released a tech preview of tooling for ICEfaces in Workshop. You can find a tutorial article by the developer at http://dev2dev.bea.com/pub/a/2007/06/icefaces-workshop.html . It's available as an Eclipse update (http://dev2dev.bea.com/eclipse/icefaces-tooling/). WebLogic Server customers can apply the update to Workshop for WebLogic, and customers who deploy to other application servers can apply it to Workshop Studio -- both downloadable from http://www.bea.com/framework.jsp?CNT=index.htm&FP=/content/products/weblogic/workshop/ .

The capabilities include a project facet to add ICEfaces to dynamic web projects, and visual page construction tools for the ICEfaces tag library.

Further details about the tech preview are on my blog, at http://dev2dev.bea.com/blog/gary.horen/archive/2007/07/tech_preview_of.html .

Gary,

Thanks to you and the rest of the BEA team who pulled all of this together. Your effort and your confidence in ICEfaces is certainly very much appreciated. I expect it will be seeing a lot of use over the months to ahead.

We have also built links into the demo and tutorial from our tutorial page ( http://www.icefaces.org/main/resources/tutorials.iface ) under a new IDE Tutorial Panel.

On behalf of the ICEsoft team and our extended community - Thank you very much for your contribution to the community.

One of the original goals of JSF was to compete with VisualStudio by providing Enterprise Java developers with visual tools. It's great to see this realized with the Workshop tooling for ICEfaces.

Did anybody managed to get it to work with icefaces 1.6?
It seems to install 1.5.3 and doesn't allow me to add a new 1.6 version to the libraries.

On another note, can this update be done as a offline install?
I've got terminals in my company that are isolated from the internet due to security considerations.

Hi Dennis --

Sorry we don't support 1.6 yet. I will post a message here when that happens. I believe I can get permission to ship you a copy of the udpate site for the current version as an archive file. Send email to ghoren@bea.com if that would help you.

Thanks
