who know the roadmap or release plan of ICEfaces 2.0 . thanks.

Hi,

ICEfaces 2.0 is currently under development but has not yet achieved a public milestone release (pre-alpha). The specifics of the roadmap, pre-release schedule, etc. are not yet published, this is something we are working to rectify soon.

I can say the following about ICEfaces 2.0 now:

Represents a "re-envisioning" of ICEfaces in terms of key features, architecture, and implementation.

Based-on the JSF 2 specification and runtimes, will require JDK 1.5+

Will be the platform for new and emerging technologies support and integration.

Will include a substantially new ICEfaces Component Suite with a consistently improved level of component richness, performance, and extensibility.

Due to the nature of the changes mentioned above, ICEfaces 2.0 will not be directly backwards-compatible with ICEfaces 1.x applications. However, we are working on a compatibility and porting strategy that will ease migration of existing applications, including support for existing custom components.

It is our goal to release ICEfaces 2.0 along with the final release of the JSF 2.0 runtime in the fall of 2009, there will be preview releases prior to then.

Richfaces has announced their JSF 2.0 based components preview will be available Aug 2009 (this month). Netbeans 6.8 M1 has already been released with JSF 2.0 & Java EE 6 support.

When Icefaces is going to release the preview of their JSF 2.0 components?

It seems Icefaces is lacking behind. It is notable that they have not yet released the Netbeans 6.7 integration with visual design support!!

May have something do with Facelets support. RichFaces doesn't even have Netbeans support. If you want anything close to the same support as ICEfaces Netbeans support you have to download JBossTools and Eclipse.

I'm not sure how you can call them lagging behind. Ted Goddard and Icesoft were just as much a part of the EG for JSF2 as Alex and the rest of the RedHat folks. The fact that we get any sort of component suite from anyone near JSF2 release is pretty amazing. And the best part about all of this: if you like something from RichFaces use it within your ICEfaces (and visa versa) application! That hasn't been possible until JSF2

If there really is deep concern about getting it out the door faster, why not help, or buy a support contract?

What you find at http://www.icefaces.org/JForum/posts/list/13310.page is not a "Preview", but it is a "Pre"-view! But Richfaces is releasing the beta of the next generation feature rich JSF 2.0 components!

We are continuing to work to an initial ICEfaces 2.0 release in the late October time-frame.

We are working hard to ensure that ICEfaces 2.0 a solid platform for future development along with dramatically improved components and component SDK. Achieving this is a priority for us vs. releasing something prematurely. We intend to release in late October, but only if it's ready.

As far as RichFaces is concerned, you may want to take their statements with a grain of salt. At JavaOne this year, ICEfaces was the only JSF component provider that had running examples on JSF 2.0 using next-generation code (in our case, "Glimmer", aka ICEfaces 2.0).

Can icefaces2.0 support visual design ,just like netbeans6.5.1 + icefaces1.8.1? I think this feature is very important. I cann't upgrade my NB7.5.1 to 6.7 because of 6.7 cann't support visual design. Thanks .

This is also our position for now, pending emergence of comparable visual jsf designer tools (in NetBeans or other tools whichever comes first).
